Making the wooden rings is quite an involved process: After the trees are cut, the wood is left to air dry, before it is machine cut. Each ring is then machine polished / sanded three times and finally hand fast polished during the fourth stage to ensure a smooth feel.
The Beech wooden ring can vary in colour depending on which part of the tree it comes from. The darker grain comes from the centre of the tree, whilst the lighter grained wood comes from the outer part.
The Acer wooden ring comes from the Ash tree. The grain is less visible and the colour is more uniformed than the Beech.
